SIFF (Seattle International Film Festival) is the nonprofit behind three year-round cinemas around Seattle — SIFF Cinema Downtown, SIFF Film Center, and SIFF Cinema Uptown — alongside its annual spring festival. All three venues share one membership program and the same social accounts; each has its own address, building history, and accessibility notes below.
Downtown
Opened in 1963 as Seattle’s Martin Cinerama, this is one of only two theaters in the world still equipped to project rare three-strip Cinerama on its deep-curved, ~90-foot screen. Rescued from permanent closure when SIFF bought it from the Paul Allen estate in 2023, it now pairs that large-format legacy with modern Dolby Atmos and laser digital projection.
Seattle Center
SIFF Film Center is a 90-seat “jewelbox” cinema at Seattle Center, built using seats salvaged from the old Cinerama’s balcony. It’s SIFF’s most intimate venue, focused on boutique arthouse releases, repertory programming, National Theatre Live broadcasts, and SIFF’s education programs.
Lower Queen Anne
SIFF Cinema Uptown occupies a 1926 Art Deco theater in Lower Queen Anne, originally built by exhibitor John Hamrick and expanded to three screens in 1984. SIFF took over operations in 2011 and bought the building in 2014, making it a year-round arthouse anchor and one of the festival’s flagship venues.
